The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) holds entrance examinations every year for recruitment to the positions of Assistant Administrative Officers (AAO). This competitive entrance examination is very much part of the various entrances that the Government holds annually.

However, LIC the continued on a recruitment spree and released a notice for 530 vacancies of AAOs this year. It is easily the biggest Life Insurance organization in India. This can be gaged from the fact that in 2007-08., LIC had a mind blowing 220 million policy holders under its even bludgeoning belt.
Normally the examinations are conducted in the month of June every year. Out of this figure of 530, 400 of the vacancies were for AAO (Generalists), 100 for AAO (Chartered Accountants), and 30 for AAO (those with Actuarial background) .
The selection for the positions of AAO (Chartered Accountants) and Aao (Actuarially qualified) are done through Interviews. The Written examination is only for those applying for the AAO (Generalist) vacancies. The AAO (Generalist) Examination consists of two papers. Paper I is objective while Paper II is Descriptive. Paper II is only a Qualifying Paper and the actual selection will be largely based on your performance in the Objective Type Paper I.. Paper I has four Papers under it – Reasoning Ability, Numerical Ability, General Knowledge or Current Affairs, and English Language. While Paper II has Essay Writing, and Precis Writing & Comprehension.
